Golden Embers
Student Teacher show – Outline

We are excited to invite you to participate in Golden Embers, a casual, annual student teacher show. This the first one!

Location: Art Society of Kinsgton https://askforarts.org
97 Broadway, Kingston NY

Event Overview:

Time: Saturday 4pm-5:30pm

Participation Details:

• This event is for professional dance teachers and their students.
• Rehearsals and technical run-throughs will be scheduled in advance the day of to ensure a polished presentation.

The vision - This is a supportive, community-centered show:

  • Students perform first, then sit in the audience to watch and support one another and enjoy the teachers finish the show.

  • Students are fully part of the audience experience.

  • Teachers also perform, modeling stage presence and performance practice.

This is not a professional troupe showcase. It’s designed as a low-pressure performance opportunity — baby steps for dancers who’ve never performed, and continued growth for those who have.

Performance structure

Each participating teacher may have:

  • One solo performance slot for themselves - for the latter part of the show so students can just relax and watch.

  • One to three additional slots for students (solo, duet, trio, or small group — flexible and teacher-led) with or without the teacher performing.

Music length:

  • Each piece should be 3–5 minutes max

With approximately 4–5 main teachers, this puts us at roughly 10–20 total performances, which is ideal for pacing and audience attention.

We can also include very brief spoken introductions for each performer or group (kept concise and warm — no TED Talks).

Show logistics

  • Show length: 1–1.5 hours

  • Tickets: $23  (coming soon on Eventbrite)

  • Students need to purchase a ticket so they can sit, watch, and support the community

  • Students should be ready to perform well before showtime

Schedule

12 – set up

1-2:30pm rehearsal

3:15 doors open

4 show

Teacher involvement

I’d love all participating teachers to be actively involved, both artistically and logistically. This includes:

  • Light marketing and promotion (sharing flyers, emails, and social posts)

  • Supporting students in preparing for performance

  • Being present and engaged on the day of the show

  • Helping with set up and clean up - ask your students to volunteer too.

If anyone is interested in helping more on the production side — stage flow, music order, backstage coordination, or general organizing — please reach out. I’m very comfortable producing and organizing, but collaboration is welcome and appreciated.

We hope to hire a photographer and a videographer so dancers can have quality documentation of their performances.
